After smash hit, sold out Adelaide Fringe seasons in 2023 and 2024, the team from Extra Curricular is back with the sequel that no one asked for, but teachers and school staff are going to love.

A comedy cabaret by teachers for teachers, Extra Curricular: mark 2 features the same hilarity, but covering new course content, like Book Week, marking, staffroom politics, relief teaching and more.

Selling out every single show of their 2023 and 2024 Adelaide Fringe seasons, Extra Curricular, (written and performed by teachers and Fringe stalwarts Libby & Matt), has been called “Fringe cabaret at its absolute best” (***** Kids in Adelaide), “A must-see for teachers as well as anyone who has worked in an office” (****.5 Glam Adelaide), and “Wildly relatable for teachers and parents alike, Extra Curricular will have you giggling like school children all the way to sports day” (****.5 HifiWay Pop Chronicles).

Dynamic duo and cabaret couple Libby Trainor Parker and Matthew Trainor have four decades of experience with marking, planning, yard duties, sports days and staff meetings and they have compiled it all in another silly cabaret show celebrating the very career that brought them together in the first place.

“Matt and I met while we were teaching and we quickly learned we enjoy writing funny songs together, which led us to performing concerts to our cats in the loungeroom before we played our first comedy cabaret on stage at Adelaide Fringe in 2014. We caught the bug and have been writing shows together ever since,” Libby says. “The first version of Extra Curricular was so much fun we’ve freshened the curriculum and are back again with more raucous cabaret chaos for anyone who works in a school.”

Winners of Best Cabaret weekly award for Endo Days, their smash hit show about endometriosis, Libby & Matt have toured all over the country with their special brand of empowering, educational comedy cabaret with no signs of stopping any time soon.

Extra Curricular: mark 2 will play for two weeks only at the musical married couple’s own venue Prompt Creative Centre on Pirie Street and opening night is almost all sold out.

“This is professional development cleverly disguised as a rollicking good time and all teachers receive a certificate linked to AITSL standards,” Libby says. “We love celebrating teachers and seeing them let their hair down. This show pokes fun at our profession through original music and relatable stories.”

So ditch your marking and head to Prompt to join Libby & Matt and The Staff Band (Dylby McCullough and Tina Donaldson) to celebrate and sing the unsung heroes who shape the minds of the future.
